The Cairn Energy-Scottish Mining Museum Carbon Fuels ProjectSpring 2011How much do you depend on energy? Think about your morning routine and count up how many electrical items you use before you leave the house. Have you ever wondered where that energy comes from? Working in partnership with the Scottish Mining Museum and Cairn Energy, this exciting project will engage with primary school pupils and teachers in Midlothiahn schools to explore where our energy comes from, how fossil fuels are formed, and why they are finite as well as examining the social and economic impact they have on the communities where they are sourced. The project is currently under development and will commence in Spring 2011. For more information contact Catherine Morgan. The Scottish Oil Club Young Geologists EventAutumn 2010/2011Funded by The Scottish Oil Club, this event is open to pupils studying higher geology in Scottish secondary schools. The CPD event provides teachers with a hands-on experience of interactive and engaging classroom activities that can be used with S1 and S2 pupils in science and beyond. Lessons have been developed in line with A Curriculum for Excellence and cover experiences relating to climatate change, resource use and energy as well as a host of others in science, geography and other subject disciplines as well. Successful CPD sessions have been delivered at Longannet power station, University of Highlands and Islands, Inverness and at the SSERC Chemistry Summer School, Edinburgh. More CPD dates to be announced shortly. For more information contact Catherine Morgan.
