Who are SESEF?

The Scottish Earth Science Education Forum (SESEF) is an association of teachers, educators and scientists established to promote and encourage an understanding of planet Earth through Earth Science education within schools and colleges in Scotland. We believe an understanding of how planet Earth works should be an essential part of every young person's education.

What do we do?

Through development officers and forum members across Scotland we work with teachers, schools, colleges, and a number of other institutions to:

  • Produce teaching materials and resources (available to teacher with no charge)
  • Deliver continuing professional development (CPD) workshops for primary teachers and for secondary in Scottish schools and colleges.
  • Support teacher education in Initial Teacher Education colleges.
  • Aim to encourage able and gifted children to pursue higher education and careers in science and geoscience
  • Support the holistic development of all children, through outdoor learning and cross-curricular activities, with particular focus on the transition group (P6-S2)

Who Do We Work With?

Every teacher in Scotland is eligible for free access and use of SESEF resources and to take part in our CPD workshops.

We also collaborate with partners such as Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS), the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), the Scottish Schools Equipment Research Centre (SSERC), Scottish Natural Heritage, and other educational support agencies in the development and support of the new Curriculum for Excellence.

Meet the Team

Sesef is governed by a Project Management Group that consists of members from across a wide range of academic institutions and educational organisations.  The Project Management Group’s role is to steer the projects undertaken by the development officers.
